WASSFront

The WA Stage School was established in 1974 by Max and Heather Ogier and has become known as one of Perth’s leading establishments where the art of dance can be studied in an atmosphere of fun and learning. One of our main focuses is for students to learn the art of performance and be free of the pressure of examinations.

All classes combine Jazz-Ballet, modern dance, American Rock Jazz, limbering, character studies, performance skills, hip hop and funk and LOTS OF FUN!

Many of our students have gone onto successful careers in the world of show business, including roles in musicals such as “Joseph and His Technicolour Dream Coat”, “A Chorus Line”, “South Pacific”, lead dancer roles in resort hotels in many parts of the world, while others have chosen to become dance teachers such as Renae O’Neill who took over the school in 1996 and replaced Max and Heather.

Whatever the reason for joining WA Stage School, you are guaranteed training and memories to last you a lifetime and LOTS OF FUN!

 Renae O'Neill

Renae has been performing and dancing since the age of 2. Renae's first achievements started at a young age when she was the centre of competitions and the top of her classes for Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Acrobatics receiving many medals and trophies for her efforts. After heavy competition Renae's mother decided to enroll both her daughters in a school dedicated to Jazz, the WA Stage School, where she became loved and admired by the owners and was offered to become a student teacher at age 14. In addition to this responsibility Renae also appeared in performances on appealathon, telethon and was in the dance troupe "Small Talk" which appeared weekly on "PYE" (Perth Young Entertainers). Along with these performances she was also the choreographer and performer for all her high school productions and rock eistedford competitions. She then came to be selected to dance professionally in the productions of Kismet and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown held in Perth.

After completing her performance obligations Renae decided to settle down and dedicate her time to teaching at her dancing school. With this, she was asked to take over the WA Stage School and was overwhelmed and excited to pass on her special gift to those who share her passion for the love of dance as this was truly a dream she thought would never come true.

Since taking on the challenge of directing her own school, you will also see the name of Renae O'Neill behind the choreography and direction of many other High School Productions and Cabaret Floor Shows performed in the corporate scene of Perth. Renae in conjuction with Icon Entertainment is also the director and choreographer for productions they showcase in Perth including, Singing in the Rain, My Fair Lady & A Chorus Line which show cased in 2006 at the Subiaco Arts Centre.

The WA Stage school has been under Renae's direction for the last 20 years and she has expanded the once only Jazz Dance School to include Cheer Leading, Hip-Hop and Singing classes. The school has three branches in the metro area and their own studio is based in Malaga where they hold specialized singing and dance classes and sell their very own WA Stage School merchandise.
